The Whangateau Traditional Boatyard

shed_bch.jpg
The Whangateau Traditional Boatyard is a traditional historic boatyard of a kind almost extinct in New Zealand. It is situated in picturesque Tramcar Bay on the northern side of the Whangateau Harbour on the Leigh Road. The boatyard is on land leased from Rodney District Council. An incorporated society runs the boatyard and  massive public support helped save the yard from demolition in 2006. The Council has given approval to this arrangement and the yard’s future will thus be ensured for coming generations.
